Briefing notes:

Task 1 : You are going to use the assigned bank debit card to withdraw RM50 from the bank account. You can try to study and understand the whole process of money withdrawal by using the prototype.

Task 2: For task 2, you are going to convert the RM1 on your hand to its corresponding amount of coins. You may need to perform the action of inserting and collecting money from the prototype.

Task 3: You will be given an identification card and RM50 to perform the action of top up RM50 into the identification card through the prototype.

Observations:

Throughout the processes of tasks performed by the users, we noticed that most of the users can quickly adapt to the functionalities of the prototype as it is similar to the existing automated teller machine. They can easily find the way to perform the tasks by touching the button on the screen and entering the number by using the number pad. They also know how to insert the card and collect the money from the slots.

The reason is because we have drawn some arrows to show what is the type of card or money they need to insert at the socket created. Hence, they will adapt to our multifunctional machine quickly. Besides, they also know the way to control of our multifunctional machine. At first, the instruction have been given at the first step of user to proceed the function desired and we have also drawn some icon in the instruction. Therefore, when user cannot understand the instruction in word but they can use our machine through the icon given. It is very friendly to person who did not familiar with our multifunctional machine.

Next, based on my observation, user who work in hawker center will tend to use the function of converting big notes into small notes because they are always lack of the small notes due to find the change to the customer. Besides, the user who study at the university will also be the same acting because they need use the small notes to fill the water by and purchase something in the vending machine. Second, the target  user of our machine is the people who want to top up the money in the identity card. The user does not need to go to the gas station and rest station to top up and it will be the advantage of our machine.

As a conclusion, i would like to say our multifunctional machine is giving an ease to person who do really need the function in our multifunctional machine at any place and time. This would able to reduce the time spend in these acting and reduce the cost. The user will have more time to focus on their things and bring an ease to them in the daily life.

Findings:

After all the users completed the tasks, we discovered that there are many problems in the functions of all the three tasks. First, some of the users faced the problem of finding the right slots to insert the right card. For example, for task 1 and task 3, the users need some time to find out where the exact slot to insert the debit card or IC as there are two independent slots for debit card and IC. The second problem is that the users are confused with the buttons on the screen. For example, in task 2, the users are confused with the square lattice shown under the coins, where they think it is a button. In addition, there is a more serious problem that the design of our coin outlet is very unreasonable for users. Many users have complained about this. The side of the coin outlet facing the user is designed to be closed, so that the coin outlet After being pushed out, the user will be blocked when taking out the coins inside, and it is difficult to take out all the coins.

For the first question, we can choose to combine the two card slots into one, so that users can no longer be confused about which card slot to insert. For the second question, we should improve the interface design of the prototype, such as adding appropriate text descriptions next to it to help users better understand each icon used for interaction. For the last question, we can cancel the front baffle, referring to the principle of vending machines to make improvements, so that users can more conveniently take away the exchanged coins.

We always encounter a lot of difficulties in the design of prototypes. After the initial experience of users, potential problems will be further exposed. Our task is to continuously improve our prototypes, propose corresponding solutions, and finally give users a perfect experience.
